Jess Davies is an emerging Devon artist, who originally trained in theatre design. A few years ago she turned to painting, and in 2009 found her way to printmaking, an unexpected but very fruitful direction.
Jess makes images around what might be called ‘traces on the land’. Many of her pieces are very simple images describing a dramatic point where the natural landscape is interrupted and marked by a symbol of human activity: hedgelines, pylons, fences, roads, standing stones. People often remark on an almost visceral response to earth and space in Jess’s work.
