Marcia Allen

My work develops as a personal response and concern with a sense of place and has as its starting point reference to an actual or imagined landscape. To me colour is the vehicle for expressing basic human emotions and my intention with my work is to aim for a clarity and elimination of all obstacles between the painter and the idea and the idea and the observer. Some paintings evoke attempts at realism by building within the painting a set of spacial relationships that refer to figurative structures, shapes etc, without describing or illustrating them. The idea of travel is implicit in the paintings - voyages back to moments once lived, revisiting of the past.
